What: Lady Gaga Live In Singapore
Venue: Fort Canning Park
Attendace: 10,000
When: Wednesday, August 12th 2009

AT AN exclusive SingTel showcase two months ago, American pop phenomenon Lady Gaga gave 1,500 lucky folk in Singapore a taste of her unique pop styling.

But at her first full-length gig here, the 23-year-old New Yorker went one step further: She wowed a crowd of 10,000 with pure, unadulterated Gaga panache.

That number itself is impressive.

Australian megastar Kylie Minogue, with decades of experience, drew only 8,000 to her show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last November.

It was clear to the audience, made up mostly of teens and young adults, that the Lady meant business.

The gig kicked off at 9.15pm with Paparazzi, as she strutted her stuff, backed by three male dancers and a four-piece band.

She was coy and coquettish one minute, and sultry the next.

But never once did she let up on the flamboyant, over-the-top persona which has made her famous the world over.

Those who attended the Sing- Tel showcase might have noticed that she repeated her modus operandi from that show to a T, from her outlandish costumes to even the banter she made with fans.

It didn't seem to matter, nor did the fact that her set lasted a mere 70 minutes. After all, she has only one album, The Fame (2008), to her name.

As she tore through danceable tracks like Love Game and Just Dance, those who had come to witness Lady Gaga in action gamely bounced along with her, hooked on her every word.

In her saccharine-sweet, sing-song drawl, she revealed her love for chilli crab.

Then, as if to tease, she perched on a stool in front of the piano and launched into a drawn-out ballad-style version of crowd pleaser Poker Face, displaying her exceptional vocal prowess.

Her musical dexterity was proven further, as she climbed atop the chair and struck various acrobatic poses while playing the piano and continuing to belt out the song.

Afterwards, she treated fans to the original version before taking her leave.

Love her or hate her, if Wednesday's performance is anything to go by, Lady Gaga is a force to be reckoned with.
