LAMC Productions is beyond thrilled that Grammy-Award Nominated Critically Acclaimed R&B songstress, KEHLANI has performed in Singapore, for the first time on Wednesday, 23 May, 2018 at Zepp @ Big Box Singapore!
Kehlani’s show in Singapore will celebrate her highly anticipated debut album, ‘SweetSexySavage’ as well as her other iconic hits from her entire discography. Kehlani went on her first arena tour recently, as a special guest on Demi Lovato’s Tell Me You Love Me World Tour, which is due to end on Mar 31, 2018. Up next, she will also be supporting Halsey in her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour (Oceanian leg.)
Kehlani embodies the title of her 2017 full-length debut album, SWEETSEXYSAVAGE The GRAMMY® Award-nominated critically acclaimed R&B songstress breathes life into those three words, and they represent a moment of self-actualization.
She tells it like it is. Whether in conversation or on stage, the Oakland-born R&B singer and songwriter gives the straight truth about her life, pain, passion, love, triumph, and everything in between with collected calm and confidence. This sincerity has become Kehlani’s signature since the 2014 release of her debut mixtape Cloud 19. At 19-years-old, she opened up even more on 2015’s You Should Be Here. After bowing at #5 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and at #1 on the iTunes Top R&B Albums Chart, the mixtape garnered a 2016 GRAMMY® Award nod for “Best Urban Contemporary Album.” Upon release, Pitchfork praised how, “You Should Be Here’s dynamism and generosity is something to be amazed by,” while Billboard proclaimed it, “The year’s first great R&B album.” It landed on Complex’s “Best Albums of 2015,” Noisey’s “50 Best Albums of 2015,” and Rolling Stone’s “20 Best R&B Albums of 2017.”
Meanwhile, everybody from G-Eazy and Zayn to Post Malone and Pusha T sought her out for guest appearances and she contributed her very first RIAA certified gold single “Gangster” to the platinum-certified #1 soundtrack of 2016, Suicide Squad: The Album. Almost immediately after You Should Be Here arrived, she began piecing together what would become SWEETSEXYSAVAGE, recording in Los Angeles as well as in Philadelphia. Her experience on the road made an indelible impact on the approach.
Emanating that confidence and charisma, she introduced SWEETSEXYSAVAGE with a series of undeniable tracks such as “CRZY” and “Advice”—which cumulatively amassed over 30 million Spotify streams in just a few months. The 90s-inspired swagger of “Distraction” impressively racked up over 3.2 million YouTube views in under 3 days. She kicked off 2017 unveiling the single “Undercover.” The track coasts from a hummable acoustic guitar into one of her biggest hooks yet, “They don’t wanna see it happen, but we say fuck it.”
Born a unique blend of ethnicities including African American, Caucasian, Native American, Spanish, and Filipino Native American Kehlani will casually tell you, “You’re lucky if you make it out of Oakland.” However, in her case, talent usurped luck. Months after her birth, Kehlani lost her father, never properly meeting him. Mired in drug addiction, her mom shuffled her to an aunt. She initially found solace in dance—ballet in particular—but a knee injury sidelined her what might’ve been a budding career as ballerina.
“That’s when I started singing,” she recalls. “When I was living with my aunt, she played me all of these powerful women and love songs. It was that Neo Soul-R&B, and I couldn’t get enough of it. It felt right to sing from the moment I began.”
Signing to Atlantic Records in early 2015 and releasing You Should Be Here, Kehlani possesses the power to make an impact because she’s so unwaveringly honest.
“I am one-hundred percent music,” she’ll assure. That’s because it’s the truth.
